Turkish flats exports to increase 10% y-o-y in 2012, DCUD

Turkish exports of steel products, including semis, reached 15.54 million tonnes in 2011, up 5.3% year-on-year. According to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers’ Association (DCUD), steel imports that year totalled 10.68mt, 3.3% down y-o-y. These figures do not include raw material trade.
DCUD general secretary Veysel Yayan tells Steel Business Briefing that there will be a trade surplus in Turkey’s steel sector in 2012, with export tonnages amounting to 150% of imports; flat steel exports should rise 10% from 2011. Flat steel imports are forecasted to decline 6-7% this year.
Turkey exported 2.3mt of flat rolled steel in 2011, up 50% y-o-y; while longs exports totalled 10.5mt, up 14% y-o-y. DCUD says for every 100t of flat steel imported in 2011, 131t was exported, up from 121t in 2010. This ratio was 100:473 for longs, 100:110 for semis and 100:252 for pipe.
Turkish flat steel production totalled 9.08mt in 2011, up 37% y-o-y.
