Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mills (Oman) to start building second steelmaking complex in Q3

Oman's Sharq Sohar Steel Rolling Mills plans to start construction of a second steelmaking complex (300,000 tpy), which will enable it to double the capacity to 600,000 tpy. The company is finishing signing contracts with equipment suppliers at the moment. Square billet production will be launched at the new shop in Q1 2013.
The 500,000 tpy rebar mill bought from the sister company RAK Steel (UAE) has already arrived to a construction site. Its assembly and adjustment is currently under way. The new equipment is slated for commissioning in H2 2013. Designed capacity of the plant will increase to 800,000 tpy of rebar as a result.
A company representative says, the plant made around 282,000 t of rebar last year. The manufacturer plans to ramp up the currently operational rebar mill to its designed capacity in 2012.
