MMFX-IQS partnership produces first 100t of rebar in UAE
 Last Update:     30/04/2012 08:24:40
Following their recent establishment of a partnership, MMFX Steel DMCC, subsidiary of California-based MMFX Technology Corp, and United Arab Emirates stainless billet producer International Quality Steel (IQS) are seeking regional offtakers for their high corrosion-resistant MMFX2 rebar.
“There are over ten rebar mills in the UAE, which are idled because of the lack of product demand – we have already had trial rolling with two of these and successfully produced over 100 tonnes of the MMFX2 rebar,” an IQS representative tells Platts Steel Business Briefing. “This product can be rolled in any rebar mill; all they have to do is contact MMFX or us for the provision of IQS billet,” he adds.
MMFX says independent tests have shown its rebar has greater corrosion resistance and is stronger than commercial grade product, possibly extending the life of bridges, high-rise structures and other buildings in weather extremes.
IQS and MMFX are expected to conclude a longer-term partnership contract in the coming weeks. IQS has a liquid steel and stainless billet capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year.
