132 thousands ton Joudco Steel production for 2009, and new projects underway

ArabSteel - Joudco Steel's production reached 132,000t of rebar during 2009, which is almost the same as 2008 production of 133,000t, according to information «Arab Steel» got from Mr. Anas Joud, General Manager of Joudco Steel.
131,400t of the company's production went to the local market in 2009, compared to 117,300t in 2008, thus rising by 12% y-o-y. Exports have seen a remarkable decrease, so only 575t were exported in 2009, whereas exports of 2008 reached 15,740t.
According to Mr. Joud, the company is developing its business in the coming period. The project to produce billets is scheduled to start at the end of 2010, with a capacity of 750,000 tpy. The billet project is a joint venture with non-Syrian investors located in 'Adraa Industrial Zone on the outskirts of Damascus.
Mr. Joud added that "the company have completed its wire-drawing factory in the Seaport Free Zone in Lattakia, another one is underway in Aleppo, and there's also a rebar mill in the same city. The company is also carrying out a study to establish a wire-drawing plant in Al-Samandeel area, Lattakia."
