ArcelorMittal Annaba production to fall short of 2010 target

The Algerian branch of ArcelorMittal failed to meet its internal production targets in September. Production for 2010 as a whole seems certain to fall short of the company’s internal forecast, according to a company internal source. In September the plant located in El Hadjar produced 34,412 tons of crude steel, 50% below the company's production target. A number of stoppages and walkouts at the facility may well have affected this result. Meanwhile, the company sold 45,900t of material during the same month. Overall, ArcelorMittal Annaba is on track to produce 700,000t of crude steel in 2010 unless it increases production substantially over the remainder of the year. This would be 41% below the company’s target for the year and a level well below the nominal installed capacity. ArcelorMittal produces semis, longs and flats; it has an installed capacity of 2.6 million tons/year of crude steel.
