The Belgian newspaper L’Echo, citing unidentified sources, reported that ArcelorMittal SA may announce the temporary shutdown of three blast furnaces and seven production lines in Europe.
The newspaper said before a company meeting with workers to announce the shutdowns that management at the company’s plant in Liege, Belgium, told trade unions November 12 of the temporary closure of local production lines for galvanized, coated and laminated steel that would lay off 500 workers during the first quarter of 2011.
