Hadid Majan (Oman) to commission new mill by late July

Omani longs producer Hadid Majan plans to commission rebar mill No.2 in late July. The new line with a capacity of 150,000 t will be capable of producing 8-32 mm TMT bars. As previously reported, implementation of the project announced in 2008 has been postponed several times due to unfavourable market and economic conditions. The start-up of the new equipment was initially scheduled for Q3 2009.
The company intends to increase capacity of its first rebar mill (100,000 t), which is currently producing 5,000-6,000 tpm, after the new facility comes on stream. After the upgrade, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2012, the mill will be capable of producing 7,000 tpm. The producer is currently deciding on the general contractor.
Currently, the company sources semis for the existing mill from both the Omani domestic and Middle Eastern markets. Hadid Majan sells the entire output in the domestic market, a company representative says.
