Danieli EWR®-Endless Welding Rolling line for Sonasid

DanNews - Sonasid, Société Nacionale de Sidérurgie will install a new EWR® Endless Welding Rolling line at its Danieli 400,000-tpy bar and section mill in operation since July 2002 at Jorf Lasfar, Morocco.
The order, awarded in June 2004, foresees startup of the new unit in Spring 2005.
Sonasid will be therefore first in the African continent to operate in endless rolling through automatic continuous on-line welding of billets at delivery side of the reheating furnace, for uninterrupted production of long products.
Significantly, Sonasid's new order brings present Danieli EWR® scorecard to list twelve lines supplied since 1997.
The EWR® process substantially benefits productivity, material yield and plant efficiency, reducing production costs and granting homogeneous material quality maintained throughout the whole endlessly-rolled stock.
A new Danieli 625,000-tpy steelmaking plant is also being constructed for Sonasid at Jorf Lasfar, and will be in operation by mid 2005 for feeding the bar and section mill. Featuring all latest technologies in steelmaking and rolling, including the latest EWR® line addition, this state-of-the-art minimill will be a reference plant in Morocco and for all other Countries in the Area.
