500000 endless rolling bar and rod mill at Hadeed

DanNews - In May 2004, Danieli was awarded the contract for the supply of a 500,000-tpy bar and wire rod mill to be installed at Saudi I&S Co (Hadeed) Al-Jubail steel complex, on a complete turnkey basis.
In August an agreement was reached for the completion of the original order with additional facilities for enabling the mill to operate in endless rolling and for completion of the high-speed wire rod production outlet.
The additional equipment includes:
- An EWR® Endless Welding Rolling line to be installed between the reheating furnace exit and the first roughing stand, for automatic continuous welding of billets for uninterrupted production of straight bars and wire rod. Endless rolling operation will enhance material yield, plant availability, productivity and production costs, granting consistent material quality. Supply of "customized-weight" coils (any coil weight, starting from a single-size standard billet) will be possible, for satisfying any specific end-user requirement, strongly benefiting Hadeed products marketability.
- A 4-pass TMB finishing block with quick changing facilities. This latest-generation Twin Module Block will be located downstream the ten-pass DWB pre-finishing wire rod block, served by a unique minimum-tension control system. All wire rod product range will be finished at the TMB unit, enhancing line's finishing speed and plant efficiency.
Hadeed will be first in Saudi Arabia and in the whole area to experience and take advantage of the combined effect of these two innovative Danieli systems.
