Eng. Ahmad Ezz
Ezz – Dkheila company is targeting to reach with its production capacity as close as 7 – 7.5 million tons of its finished products during the next three years. This has been declared by Eng. Ahmed Ezz, President of the company, in a special statement to the Arab Steel magazine. Eng. Ezz expects that the company’s total production in 2006 will outpace 5.1 million tons of finished products, which constitutes an increase over the production level achieved in 2005 by about 600 thousand tons and more than one million tons over the production level of 2004. Eng. Ezz has also added that the Egyptian steel market has benefited from the good growth rates witnessed by the Egyptian economy which came close to 6% in the past period, which brought the domestic consumption closer to 5 million tons, most of which was in the long products, taking into consideration that the consumption of the flat products last year had also witnessed a big increase reaching 22 – 23 %. On the investment strategy of Ezz - Dkheilah company, Mr. Ezz asserted the correctness of the investment resolutions made by the company in channeling a principal part of its investments to the flat products where the volume of the investments channeled to this sector have neared 2 billion dollars and the volume of the production capacities of flats amounted to 2.2 million tons. He also said that the company’s strategy in this field is based on export, as the company had achieved good figures in this field- the figures of its exports of flats exceeded one million tons during 2005. Mr. Ezz also said that the company is now at a new stage represented in new integrated investments during the next three years ,as a great part of these investments will be dedicated as a first step to produce 2 – 3 million tons of these new capacities for the direct reduction iron (DRI) in addition to about one million tons to produce flat products and one million tons to produce long products. Within these new production capacities intended to be set up by the company there will be a new project to produce steel in one of the Arab countries other than Egypt. Mr. Ahmad Ezz has asserted the importance of integration and merging in the steel industry indicating that companies are taking the line of alliance, merging and integration and that the markets need a different type of service and integration in supplying the product. About whether Ezz – Dkheila company has the intention to go into merging with Arab or international companies, Mr. Ezz said, «I do not imagine that now there are ideas for mergers or alliances with other Arab companies because we are still under a growth period related with our Arab markets; therefore, the growth idea comes through building the new projects». He also added, «I, as an Arab industrialist, am interested and insisting to keep the Arab entities Arab entities, not merely for pure national aims, but this will be to the interest of the Arab economy within which there are leading Arab companies transformed from being the protection companies into international companies». He also said,» It is our right to grow in our markets and it is also our right to grow as great Arab entities and if we find opportunities in the Arab world in a satisfactory and friendly way to grow through mergers with other companies in the world, we will be happy to do that». Mr. Ezz criticized the fragmentation situation witnessed in the Arab steel industry saying, «In order to grow up, continue and compete, the Arab steel industry must unite and integrate».
